Five Things I Wish We Could Leave in 2016

Wednesday, December 28, 2016

Well it's been a pretty shitty year hasn't it!?!

2016 shall forever be remembered as the year all the legends went home, people collectively lost their damn minds (all around the world), and everybody just couldn't wait for it to be over. So I've got a really happy favourites from 2016 post coming asap but first I want to share with you all the things I wish we could just leave in 2016, if you please.

1. Trolling-I know this is never going to happen but seriously can we not? Like I don't even get how this is fun for anyone-what kind of person gets their kicks from telling someone to "kill yourself" because they were excited about vegan Ben & Jerry's?? Why is it okay to attack a persons appearance because they voted differently to you?! I genuinely don't understand the troll mentality. And I can't help but thinking that if they put as much effort into having a wash, and venturing outside they might get that shag they so desperately need!

2. Unsolicited Dick pics- wtaf guys!?! Just once I would like to open my snapchat and not be presented with a really close up picture of a strangers Dick! Newsflash they aren't really that attractive to look at! At best it looks like a fleshy obelisk type thing, at worst a portobello mushroom (pre-cooking) these are not things that excite me. Not to mention I'm married so the only dick I wanna see is my husbands, capeche?

3. Non-intersectional feminism!- 🙄🙄🙄 *eyeroll times a million* if one good thing came out of 2016 it was that people got hell of woke! For Godsake Teen Vogue became the go to magazine for actual news!! But then it was also the year that White Feminists became insufferable twats. I'm looking at you Lena Dunham, Taylor Swift, and Amy Scumer! Here's a handy tip if you're going to be a feminist in 2017 and beyond-make it intersectional, be an ally to other groups, listen to WOC about their experiences, speak up for everyone. Don't just use your voice to fight for you, use your voice to fight for everyone that has a fight on their hands. Do not make other groups problems your own but amplify their voices so they can speak for themselves. Just do better please.

4. "Freedom of speech"-Jesus Christ yes we are all entitled to freedom of speech. Yes we are all (not all but the vast majority of those with some sort of privilege) are allowed to say what ever we please on a daily basis. BUT that does not mean that everyone else doesn't have a right to call you out on your bullshit. If what your freedom allows you to say is derogatory, inflammatory, misogynistic,or problematic in anyway-expect a clapback or 10(00). Because while freedom of speech should for sure make it to 2017-using it as a catch all phrase to cover for your shite should definitely be left in 2016.

5. "Triggered" memes- how did these become so prevalent? The "I don't have a proper argument so have this" response of every troll. Generally aimed at woman, sometimes accompanied by a photo of the idiots photofit feminist, always used as a way to shut down someone else's voice, or silence their valid feelings. I'd hazard a guess that the majority of people who fire this at someone have no idea what it's like to suffer from a mental illness...or to feel like your mind is trying to drag you back to the worst places it has been, without your permission, and without regards for your feelings. Trigger warnings are society's (the humane side of it) way of showing compassion for the other people who might read their words. You don't have to have experienced something to understand that it might negatively affect someone to have it brought up, so let's show a little respect to others in 2017 huh?

Oh God honestly I started writing notes for this and it just went on and on and on! So instead of boring you all to death I'm gonna stick with 5 for now. Don't be surprised if 2017 sees a post titled 5 things I wish we'd left in 2016, though!

What are some things you'd like to leave in the past year? Are there any people you'd like to leave behind *cough* Trump, *cough* Katie Hopkins?

  1. Love it, I agree with all of the above. The only thing is, the people who want to leave them behind aren't committing these annoyances and the people who are probably won't stop any time soon.

We can only live in hope :)

  2. I definately agree with you about Katie Hopkins, she is an absolutely vile person. Another think i'd like to leave behind is Kylie Jenner and her overrated lip kits. I'm a beauty blogger so I see them appearing on blogs all the time. They are not worth the money, just a cheaper brand repackaged and for £60 (saw one store in London selling them for that) they are not worth the money. For £60 I could buy a proper brand like Chanel or NARS.

  3. Yes, yes and yes again! All of this I agree with. I did a rant about "triggered" recently. It's a gross meme that needs to be stopped.

  8. Can we add Donald Trump to that list lol? I agree, here I am casually checking my instagram and I notice a new Instagram message request. Lo and behold another pervert sending me a dick pick. I don't know why they think im going to want to talk to them because they have sent me a picture of their dick.

  9. It's definitely been a funny old year hasn't it. I'm surprised and how little humanitarianism people seem to have, and I really hope that something changes in 2017
