A Few of My Favourite Things...Albums

You might have noticed a wee trend going around Twitter at the moment which seems to have taken on a life of it's own. I'm of course talking about the #7Fav...hashtag that has been trending in a variety of forms over that last week or so. So far we've had TV shows, movies, and albums but I can see this going on for a while. I will admit I have been inspired by it somewhat in that I think it is a brilliant idea for a few blog posts so I hope you don't mind if I share a few of my favourites for a bit. I think you can really tell a lot about a person by what they consider their favourites, what it is that stands out in their mind, what they deem special above all else. I'd actually be intrigued to know what people think of me based of my choices so please feel free to let me know in the comments of any of these posts.

First up I shared my #7favAlbums on Twitter a couple of days ago so I thought I'd start with that and give you a little more than I could in 140 characters.

1) My Aim is True-Elvis Costello
This is what I call my evergreen record, one that never gets old, that I can listen to on repeat for days and not get bored. To think I only discovered it because of my love of cheesy AF teen movies and TV shows!! Who remembers the movie Get Over It? It was really bad and starred Kirsten Dunst, Mila Kunis, and Sisqo. Well in it one of the main guys sings a song called Alison which I loved, so I searched for it and discovered My Aim is True. Not long after that, my third favourite One Tree Hill girl, Peyton named the record as her favourite ever, and if I have the same taste in music as Peyton from OTH I'm doing alright haha.

2) Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge- My Chemical Romance
I will literally never not be a little emo kid stuck in a grown up shell! This album is literally packed full of banger after banger! Everyone loses their shit over The Black Parade (and rightly so, it's a frickin masterpiece) but I think TCFSR deserves so much love because despite it being a second album (notoriously difficult to get right) it's actually perfect. I was going to give you a favourite track but I can't pick between Helena, and Give Em' Hell Kid, so I guess you'll just have to listen and choose your own favourite!

3) The Kick Inside- Kate Bush
Do I need to explain this? Kate Bush is, and always will be my music QUEEN! She was quirky before Bjork, hit notes that only dogs can hear, and had a banging wardrobe to boot. Her albums are like works of art and It is hard to pick a favourite but The Kick Inside is home to Wuthering Heights so it wins.

4) Bryan Adams: The Best of Me- Bryan Adams (duh)
I love him! I am actually in love with him! His voice is WOW, he is absolutely gorgeous-seriously he is 56 and last week when I SAW HIM LIVE I was ready to leave my husband (only joking babe, kind of). I sat for a minute and tried to decide which album of his was my favourite and I couldn't so I cheated and here we have his Greatest Hits! Favourite Track: Can't Stop This Thing We Started, oh or All For Love, or Please Forgive Me, oh crap we're going to be here all day *lol*.

5) Lemonade
Confession time: I don't particularly care for Beyonce. In fact in this post I went so far as to say I just didn't get her, and then she dropped Lemonade and I died inside! This is literally a case of I really didn't want to but I HAD to have this record. It's just perfect, this record was more than just the ramblings of a cheated wife. It is an important piece of music that highlights issues of race, feminism, and the horrendous inequalities that are apparent to those of us who have our eyes open. My own personal opinion is that this record is for every single black woman, and the rest of us are just lucky to be able to listen! Favourite Track: Hold Up

6) Affirmation- Savage Garden
Who remembers Savage Garden?? They are my guilty pleasure band and Affirmation is their best album. I'll actually never forgive Darren Hayes for thinking he was too good for the band and going solo, seriously mate POP was shite! This album reminds me of my first secondary school disco which involved a costume change, getting "drunk" off a 1/4 bottle of Grants vodka, and a Big Beastie, and stealing a tub of red space pencils...oh to be young again ;-p *pmsl*.

7) A Fever you Can't Sweat Out- Panic! At the Disco
This is another one that transports me back to a different time and place. In this case it's back to the Carling Academy in Glasgow. The hair was big, the eyeliner took an hour to remove, I left my heels on the bar, I kissed way too many boys that I shouldn't have (I'm sorry but emo boys are pretty!!) and the lead singer of Men, Women, and Children stole my rainbow belt. Yeah great memories.
