Boohoo and Sports Direct Holiday Haul

Monday, May 16, 2016

I can't quite believe it but It's suddenly less than a month until we fly out on our much needed holiday! Plus side to this is sun, sand, cocktails, and finally a chance to relax,  the downside is I am so underprepared. I have gained almost a stone since our last holiday and sadly that means none of my holiday wear even fits anymore :-(...so, I went shopping.

Down to Earth...

OMG I hate Air France! I mean seriously if there is any industry where a laissez-faire attitude should not be evident you would think aviation would be it!!
The staff were rude, and looked bored most of the time (I swear if one of them had cracked a smile I would have died of shock), one stewardess literally pushed D out of the way, no "excuse me" (I mean seriously didn't they like pen the phrase?). Then there was the breakfast, breakfast?? On a French airline, flying into France...you'd expect croissants, pain au chocolat etc. You'd be disappointed! We got a stale muffin, and an even worse bun. But yeah I know what you're thinking "Amanda stop moaning" and I would usually concede minor issues like these if it had not been for the debacle that ensued once we had landed. I'm used to landing, taxiing and then perhaps waiting 10/15 minutes to disembark the plane...today we were left on the plane for an hour after we had landed, BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T FIND A SET OF WORKING STAIRS!! How technical do stairs need to be? This of course was made worse by the fact that the announcements were made in French  first and then us lowly English speakers were left to wonder for ages about what the hell was going on. I'm claustrophobic and I can tell you I was full on panicking. I felt trapped, my breathe became shallow and I'm not afraid to admit there were tears...during all this our nearest air stewardess decided to make her way past us to go chat to a French passenger (who one can only assume had understood the announcement in the first place)!
Anyway we eventually got off our plane, through security, onto a monorail thing, and to our terminal...the one without any food courts that didn't just offer baguettes for €8!! Plus side to Charles De  Gaulle? An extensive selection of duty free Champagne, and smoking shelters that you don't pay a £1 a shot to use (take note ABZ). Oh and I must mention they then decided to change our seats without asking, and changing our gate without telling us. Piss poor first leg of a journey!
On the plus side our second flight of the day was with the lovely Cityjet, the staff were friendly, chatty, smiling, and in a nice touch they came over with a glass of  Champagne for us both with a congratulations...still no bloody pain au chocolat though!!
We are now on the tram into Edinburgh city centre where we plan to descend on McDonalds before the final leg of our homeward journey.
Wish us luck...

Much love AJ xx

Back to Reality

Hola guys!
Well I'm currently stuck in a metal cylinder with wings about 30,000ft above the Atlantic Ocean, about an hour into the first leg of our journey back to reality :-(. Sad-face because we have to go home, but also because I am shit scared of flying! I'm talking squeeze Damian's hand so tight it decreases circulation, tears in my eyes, praying constantly under my breath scared!! The part once we're up in the air isn't so bad (unless we hit an air pocket or whatever-the slightest bump and I'm back to a jibbering wreck) but the taking off and landing part scares the bejesus out of me. I just don't understand how people can enjoy the feeling of hurtling down a runway in a steel contraption at the mercy of a pilot you've never met! My mum loves those parts which makes me even more sure she's certifiably insane (jokes, love ya mummy).
Anyway enough about how I'm a big scaredy cat...
Did you know that the Spanish word for Onion is Cebollas? Interesting fact number 1. Onion Rings are called Aros de Cebollas, and I think that's just the cutest thing. Of course I can't eat said Cebollas because it would lead to me being violently sick and just a bit swollen :-(...which is why I have learnt quite a few Spanish words this past fortnight. It's strange though some words are very similar to our English like: Alergica, vinagre, tomate, piña and oregano. But some are very very different: pimienta for instance is pepper, pollo is chicken, and then there is the aforementioned cebollas. I know I just bored you senseless but I like quirky little language stuff so sorry, not sorry :-p.
Ooh interesting fact number 2...in theDominican  Republic (and some parts of the States) it seems they have never heard of a Long Vodka!! I thought this was a pretty popular drink but the looks I got when I ordered one were comically confused. In the end I had to teach a bartender how to make one, and let an American lady try one (he did very well, and she enjoyed it). So I like to think I've done my part on spreading the Long Vodka word :-).

Right I think that's enough for now because I don't even have wifi to upload this yet, and I'm going to need something to keep me occupied during our 5 hour layover in Paris. So I will bid you buenos noche...until Paris :-).
Much love AJ xx

Hello from the Dominican Republic!!

Saturday, August 02, 2014

Hi folks!!

Just thought i'd take advantage of the lovely Tropical Storm, that has just arrived in our little slice of the Caribbean, to pop on and say õla!

As you probably know me and the one we call Damian are in the Dom Rep to get married :-). So far we are taking full advantage of the 15 swimming pools, the all inclusive EVERYTHING, the wonderful heat, and the amazing staff.

Damian is trying to teach me how to swim :-( yeah yeah I know, you can't believe I'm 27 and can't swim! But I have a fear of water that comes over my face so swimming has always been a no no, however my wonderful hubby to be is very patient and a great teacher and I've actually been enjoying spending loads of time in the water. :-).

Ooh speaking of water...we saw a REAL LIFE TURTLE!! It was so cool and kept popping it's head out of the water to say hi 🐢 (I know that's a tortoise but close enough lol). We named our turtle friend Tarquin and he seemed to like it.

Let's see what else can I tell you...ooh yeah! We have the most amazing suite. The bed is so big I can starfish and still not annoy Damian on his side of the bed :-). We also have a double shower room, a free mini bar and liquor dispenser oh yeah and the best bit...an actual hot tub right next to our bed.

This is already one of the best places I've been to on holiday and it's only the third full day!! Next week we are going on an ATV tour of the island, are booked in for a couples massage, oh and of course let's not forget WE ARE GETTING HITCHED!
I've never been more excited in my life 👰😂.

Check back next week for another message straight from the new Mrs Wathern!

Much love AJ xx

Fashion Friday 1

Friday, February 21, 2014

I've decided that while Fashion Friday's will mostly be What I Wore posts (which means I am totally upping my Friday wardrobe game), I am also going to pop n a few non-me associated posts from time to time. These might take the form of Street Style, Friend profiles, or fashion icons profiles. It also wont be all about clothes, because as we agreed in the about the blog section (up there ^^^) I believe fashion covers everything we have from clothes to interiors and everything inbetween.

For the first one I will give you my Holiday Wardrobe shopping list so far so we can look at some pictures :-).

This gorgeous bikini is the perfect colour for me, AND it's from my very own cousin's very own swimwear range so it absolutely had to be added to my beachwear collection.

As too is this...
I figured I should buy at least one one-piece for those days where i've overindulged in the all inclusive dessert table, and this is so cute!

Of course I'll also need a cover-up or five ;-) and this is the first on my list:

This photo really doesn't make it look as pretty as it is, but I love white crotchet throwovers, I think they just have a lovely holiday feel about them, and they are less likely to get dirty and grimy in the pure Carribean air, than they would here in smog-ville.

While looking at Kaftans I came across another super cute bikini so I figured I'd sneak one more in...
This is such a pretty blue colour, I can't wait to see how it looks against a tan, and for those of you who are good at picking up patterns, it has the flappy bit that minimises the boobage on display, which for me is a good thing (don't want to look obscene in holiday pics).

and then of course there's the feet:
These are the cutest pair of sandals i've seen in a while, and to me they just scream "Wear me on a Carribean beach" so that is what I shall do pretty shoes, that is what I shall do!

This could go on forever so i'll stop now. I do need a little help though...where can I find beach appropriate heels? I used to have a gorgeous pair but I broke them :-(. If you have any ideas please comment OR tweet me @loveandoas

Much Love
AJ
