Have you ever found a makeup product that was just PERFECT for you? That one holy grail product that nothing else could seem to do as good a job as? This product was your go-to item, your favourite thing in your makeup bag, and the one thing you'd just be devastated if it was ever *shudder* discontinued?
Well I have, but no this post isn't a review of a product that's been out for years, this post is about what happens when the company that creates that holy grail product makes a business decision that makes you wonder..."but what do I do now?"
A couple of days ago Kylie Cosmetics announced that they had sold a 51% share of the company to Coty-a cosmetics giant. This isn't unusual, most of your favourite makeup brands are owned by other, bigger parent companies-the problem starts when a non-cruelty free company becomes a parent to a cruelty-free one. To some people this might not be a problem, I know many people who consider a company to be cruelty-free as long as the brand themselves don't test their products on animals, I however, am not one of those people.
Please don't take that the wrong way, by the way, any step towards a kinder, cruelty-free life is great in my eyes. 10,000 people doing good imperfectly is always better than 1 person doing good perfectly. So basically you do you, and I'll do me, and hopefully, the animals won't suffer for it.
It's actually so much easier to get your hands on cruelty-free makeup nowadays-just take a trip to any Superdrug and you will see shelves and shelves of GREAT products that haven't been anywhere near animal testing. But that doesn't mean it's easy to replace your holy grail product-as I am currently finding out.
So basically I'm on the hunt for a matte, liquid lipstick that doesn't dry your lips out, doesn't transfer to glasses/straws/clothes, doesn't fade throughout the day, and wasn't tested on animals (or belong to a company who does). Shouldn't be too hard right *insert cry face emoji here*. I obviously headed straight to Twitter for help and some of the suggestions got me thinking I might do a little round up of the cruelty-free brands that I love, and the ones who are owned by big bad parent companies, so here we go!
